Monday is bread baking day at our house. We made Hollyhock bread from the Hollyhock Cooks Cookbook. It is a whole grain bread with tons of millet seeds, and oats. It was very tasty. Bread baking is part of our Waldorf weekly rhythm and it is so much better now that Ian is three. I love watching his little hands knead the bread as we sing this song:
Oh, this is the way that the farmer goes,
With a heigh-ho, heigh-ho,
Oh, this is the way that the farmer goes,
He ploughs and digs and harrows and sows,
To grow some wheat for my baby,
Some wheat for my baby-o!
Oh, this is the way that the farmer goes,
With a heigh-ho, heigh-ho,
Oh, this is the way that the farmer goes,
His mill wheels turn as little brook flows,
To grind some flour for my baby,
Some flour for my baby-o!
Oh, this is the way that the farmer goes,
With a heigh-ho, heigh-ho,
Oh, this is the way that the farmer goes,
He stirs and kneads and bakes it just so,
To make some bread for my baby,
Some bread for my baby-o!
We enjoyed making bread today and definitely the aroma coming from the oven. It brings me back to being a little girl anxiously anticipating my Nanny's homemade bread! This bread also made a delicious treat to eat with our Lemony Lentil Soup a favorite from the same cookbook.

Tomorrow is Three Kings Day/Twelfth Night/Epiphany. So more to come tomorrow!
